Mancs Can't Pronounce Their Ts. "SHI**Y CI*Y" (see?) & Donkeys Are Pretty Retarded :[

A couple of weeks ago I built myself a new workstation. When the UPS guy arrived at my door (2 days earlier than anticipated, might I add...) with two, rather large, boxes, it felt very much like Christmas Day. I shan't delve into how awesome my new rig is. PSYKE, yes I fucking shall. It's seriously fast and fierce. I've thrown everything I can think of at it and it just laughs maniacally in my face -- Heavy global illumination CG scenes in Maya, multiply layered composited sequences... My computer just sits there, all befudled and tits bored. it's just like "Bitch, please". It's a bulldog, which is why I've named it Churchill. I do a lot of design-based and 3D-related work and what typically would take hours, now, take a mere minute or two. It's mental. To my credit, this was the result of my l337 geekness and weeks of research and sifting through various CPU/GPU/HD benchmarks to find the perfect fit *cough*. I also over-clocked the fuck outta everything. I was most excited in purchasing the GTX 280 (oc edition) which is a rather large GPU which offloads a great deal of graphical instruction sets from the actual CPU. Which results in the emotional equivalent to Manchester United sacking Germany & Barcelona in the same day, whilst Wayne Rooney bests Ronaldo in an epic display of showmanship, prior to Oasis performing post-match. I had originally wanted to have Windows XP and the latest incarnation of Linux (dual boot) as my OS environment, however, I have an SLI 3-way setup with my GTX280 so I had to use Windows Vista. To my surprise, Vista is not shit. I feel the need to defend Vista and Microsoft. I fundamentally believe that these Apple adds, although funny, are mostly misleading. Microsoft's biggest fault was releasing several different versions of the same operating system, people having to contend with the need to upgrade their computers in order to run Vista, and the rest was simply Vista's technically-faulted nature (it's not perfect). If you run Vista Ultimate, apply the 2 Service Packs, install a solid virus scanner (such as Kaspersky) as well as a malware-specific app such as Malwarebytes, you'll have virtually no problem with Vista. That's fact (bitch). Anyway, this geekrant has been brought to you by Starbucks' Caramel Machiatto.. Did anyone actually read this paragraph? Fuck me, roight? In summary, everything in my Adobe Creative Suit (Lightroom, Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects etc,) loads in two seconds flat. Sausages!

Lalalalala. It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that my neighbourhood is vastly superior to yours :[ I feel it's going to be an annual thing whereupon I post pics of this hood. Spring and the fall. I prefer the fall. Nothing beats walkabouts in the fall, looking up at the victorian homes with their gingerbread trim against cloudy/scary skies whilst listening to tunes [,man]. Nothing is better. Not even Oasis/mayonaise/Natasha Khan. Nor this dumb/retarded/sad yet hugable Donkey. "Hey donkey. How're you doin'? Alright donkey, say hi to your mother for me!" -- SNL reference.

I feel this is a cross-sectionally fair representation of what I listen to these days.

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones!

I included Longwave but the song I intended to use was/is not available on Playlist.com, nor can it be found on any site including; youtube or hypem. The song I wanted to shove down your throats was called Sideways Sideways Rain. Whenever I listen to it, to the detriment of my neighbours, I'll do so in repeat. The bassline bits are fantastically magical. I highly recommend you find the song. Pillage villages, if needs be, it's that good. Or you could just bypass all that nonsensical drama and buy the album, wooot.

Honourable mentions to the saddest songs ever; Bat For Lashes' Sad Eyes and The National's 90 Mile Water Wall. And a firm thumbs up to the sky for Manchester's The Answering Machine who, along with every other Manc, can never pronounce 'City' properly. And to A Sunny Day In Glasgow for having the best tunes and the best band name.

I concur about Vista. I was very reluctant at first, but I haven't had any problems with it at all. But I also have Vista Ultimate, so that might be why as well.

Vista Ultimate is the only version that is stable enough to fully function. I still don't quite understand why MS went with all these different lame versions (including a 32 bit and 64 bit version).

Apparently Windows 7 is going to be less loaded than previous releases of the OS. I first saw a preview of Windows 7 a few months ago and it looked rather retarded. It has touch screen capabilities. Think it a giant iTouch. Pretty useless feature. But the more I read about Windows 7 the more it looks like a really GOOD version of a Microsoft OS. Finally, I say. I was thinking about downloading the beta build of Windows 7 but I can't risk it right now.

From what I heard, Windows 7 is essentially a way for MS to make more money, when they could have probably called Windows 7 "Vista Service Pack 3". But then again, I haven't seen Windows 7 so I can't say for sure.

I'm inclined to agree with your Service Pack 3 assessment. It's sort of like that. They apparently re-wrote/reworked windows explorer for Vista, from the ground up. And it IS basically like vista but I believe it will have a lot less tasks running in the background. Which is nice, cos that shit pisses me off to no end. So it's basically a lighter and tighter and more streamlined version of Vista and that's fine by me. I still can't get over the fact that Microsoft cannot, for the life of them, release a near flawless operating system. The only time I will give credit to Apple is when I'm discussing Operating systems. Anyway here's some geek's thoughts on Windows 7.

Everything from Crate&Barrel.
I require a long desk, fancy lamp and fancy chair.
If you have any viable solutions, feel free to provide them.
So long as you take into consideration that they will be hosting a dual monitor and wooden pirate ship.

This would've been easier if you'd SHOW ME YOUR HOUSE, but oh well. Going all-out with 1800s nautical regalia would be gross, so here's a carefully chosen mix of old and new:

This lamp in antiqued bronze + pirate ship = winning-est win. It's so EXPENSIVE looking:
http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=1225&f=10540

And you could put it HERE (more than five feet of desktop? ooh la la!):
http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=1070&f=22655

I am not crazy about any of their chairs, but this is by far my favorite:
http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=1080&f=31212

And the pirate ship goes HERE, matey (asymmetrically crowning it all?):

haha I knew you'd get a kick outta it.

I like your ideas. I think the desk is actually perfect for what I desire. I like the colour/grain. I had originally just wanted a slab of wood with metal braces/legs. The lamp is good but I don't know. I am obsessed with this lamp

http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=1225&f=14740
but it doesn't have any business being on a desktop desk etc...

As for the chair I like it because I know I would like it more if I saw it in person. I was at Yorkdale Mall over the weekend and they have the largest Crate&Barrel store I've EVER seen. Sidenote; They are also opening a burberry store *does a little dance* omg. I digress.

I really want this for my living room; http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=985&f=10511&firstpage=28&RFX_PassBack=&catalog_name=springcollection2009&catalog=1&fromLocation=OnlineCatalog%20:%20springcollection2009&pgnm=springcollection2009%20:%2028%20:%2010511

I'm so predictable. *grin*

The bad thing about a desktop setup? UGLY WIRES. A slab on legs is minimal-chic until you add ugly wires. That's why this desk is perfect. You can stuff 'em all back there and it's like ugly wires? what? hey look at my sexy sexy desk...

That lamp is so cool, but it doesn't belong on a desk. Buy it and put it elsewhere! You love it. DO it.

I have just fallen irreversibly in love with this lamp:
http://www.uttermost.com/product_line.aspx?category=-20041&parent=-20031#_top
It's all the goodness of steampunk without, y'know, fat chicks in goggles.

You did a little Burberry dance. WOW. I'm just sayin'. I'm not sure about that coffee table. I think it seems modern and attractive in photographs, but in person it would be too rustic for me.

Hmm weird. I'd never use a laptop for gaming. Are you running the game with all settings at Max? I guarantee if you got the above mentioned fan rig, it would fix your problem. Most gaming laptops sold these days use something comparable.

Did you see the fan on my GTX 280? It's hilarious. The card is MASSIVE. I had to move over a few HDs just make room for it. Thank god I've got good heat management inside my current case.

the GTX 280s seem to be made of awesomeness.

I got the laptop in 2006 and it was made for gaming. It worked alright until about 8 months ago, when I started getting NMI Parity Errors. I run all of my newer video games on minumum graphics capabilities now (WoW specifically & Sims 2 specifically) but the older ones from 2006 and before run fine on max graphics.

We are going to be replacing the laptop in the next couple months, so it doesn't make sense for me to buy more stuff for it.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 currently (The step below the XPS line) and it has stood me well. It has a nvidia card (7800 GTS). My SO bought an XPS at the same time and it has stood the test of gaming time better than mine did. He also spent close to 4500 on it.

Obviously people should use whatever OS they enjoy using, but Windows makes me want to snuff it. I switched in 2001 and I love everything about OSX.

Here's an Apple problem though: I'm feeling ready to get a new laptop, but I hate the design of the current MacBook Pro, so I'll have to wait until they change it again.

I'm also dying to buy a Dell Mini9 netbook and put OSX on it, but I have no legitimate reason other than nerd's disease to buy one!

mm I dunno. I hate/loathe everything Apple. I fucking hate their generic cookie-cutter approach to their products. They think themselves soooo innovative but to be a PC user actually holds way more room for scalability. Anyway whatever, I can't refute the fact that their OSX is miles better than Vista or any other MS OS. I could spend hours talking about this. I do <3 the iPod/iTouch, though.

The mini9 look BOSSSSSSS. I don't know how much I would like having that Intel Atom proc. but I don't know enough on those. Solid State Drives are the way of the future. Various manufacturers are going in that direction for desktops. Right now they're hellishly expensive but the transfer rates are amazing and loading your primary OS in, like, 2 seconds is probably nice. Probablyyyyyyyyyy.

Victory!

They're wicked. Best new act I'd say but everyone's been saying that in the British press, really.

The thing that makes me LOL about them is that their songs all have these rather weird stories. They all generally involve kidnapping, lust/love and the potential for murder. Bit bizarre if you ask me but you can't exactly say they're generic.

From The Stars is their best song. It's like, the epitome of the perfect British song.

Tell me what you think.
